The joys and challenges of riding in the Antelope Valley

High Desert Cyclists Saturday Ride to Rosamond, July 7, 2012

July 6th, 2012 at 6:28

Saturday’s ride will be lead by Colin Baird. The ride will have two distinct rides. We will all begin promptly at 0700 from 20th and Ave L in Lancaster.

If you are coming from LA, you can expect a 60-minute drive to Lancaster from the San Fernando Valley. If you need directions, take the 14 north to Ave L and exit left onto Ave L. At 20th St West, turn right and go immediately into the parking lot. You will see the group inside the Ralph’s shopping center. The address is 1969 W Ave L.

One ride will go out to Rosamond via 110th Street West and head out to Rosamond and return. 45 miles +-

The other ride will turn right at Ave G from 110th and turn down Ave G to begin heading back to town. 30 miles +-

Colin’s thoughts are for folks who want to push themselves to slightly longer distances, the Rosamond ride will help build endurance, while keeping the heart rate down.

The Ave G turn off will allow anyone in the group who doesn’t feel up to Rosamond to go back home and still have a good time.

Our pace will remain conversational while helping riders maintain and improve fitness. Please bring 2 water bottles and ample food as there are very few places to refill along the way until we get to Rosamond.

Colin is willing to help beginning riders start working on activities from riding in a paceline (and learning its importance), to improving heart rates through basic interval training. I am available for anyone that wants some guidance on riding and the basics of beginning to intermediate techniques.

Our rides are intended for riders of all levels, but basic to beginner riders will benefit most from the training aspects of this Saturday’s ride.

Colin’s email is thebairdfamily1 at gmail dot com, and his cell is 661 332 0382. Please visit the MapMYRide to see the route details:

You are welcome to contact Colin directly should you have any questions.

Normal rules of the road will apply, and helmets are mandatory.

We had nearly 25 riders last week through all of your terrific efforts. Let’s each try to invite 5 more people for the ride so we can get this up to 30 folks!
